Most plant managers assume a fuel switch means weeks of downtime. In practice, our retrofit playbook compresses the swap to seven working days — if you start with the right preparation. Here is the step-by-step.
Day 1–2: Assessment and decommission
We begin with a full thermal survey of the existing installation. Burner output, flue gas temperature, fuel line routing and control wiring are mapped. The old diesel or furnace oil burner is then decommissioned and removed from the housing.
Day 3–4: Housing modification and pellet feed install
The burner housing is modified to accept the NT-R unit. A pellet feed hopper is positioned adjacent to the burner, connected by an auger system. Day four closes with the fuel line connected and the first dry-run tests.
Day 5–6: Commissioning and calibration
Live firing begins with low load and ramps to 25%, 50% and 75% over 24 hours. Flue gas composition is monitored continuously. Primary, secondary and tertiary air ratios are tuned until CO readings fall below 50 ppm and O2 sits at 7–9%.
Day 7: Handover and training
The plant operator receives a one-day training session on feed-rate adjustment, ash removal, and emergency shutdown. A digital commissioning report is delivered with before/after benchmarks.
